First Day… : Collegiates

It’s the first day of spring semester 2017!
H*ll yeah.

The first day is always intimidating, a little bit awkward, and has the potential to be either great or sh*tty. I’ve already dropped a class (if you hate the first day, you’re not going to feel good the rest of the semester), fell in love with a professor, gone to the gym, and resisted Starbucks…

I love the first day of the semester, professors are ready to launch the new semester, students are getting back from break, everyone is all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. Some people are a little too hyped, like my International Monetary Systems professor. She was bouncing around the room twenty minutes before the classes even started… I have very little patience for adults who act like children so I ended up walking out saying, “Oh, I came into the wrong room.” And dropped the class.

Professors are people. Let me say it again for the people in the back, professors are people. They have accents and say words funny. Get the f*ck over it. One of my professors speaks English as his third language. After French and German. He is aware of his accent and apologized for it while introducing himself. He said “if I say something and you can’t understand, just ask me, I’m not offended.” Now, he’s nice, and he makes jokes about his accent. I had another professor who spoke with a very heavy accent and couldn’t write English letters very well and denied that he was the reason we all wrote N instead of V in our formulas. You have to make the decision if you can handle that professor all semester. If you can’t, drop the class, don’t be a d*ck and insult them about their accent halfway through the semester.

There’s one class I’m taking with a professor I’ve taken two classes with previously, and I’m really excited for her class. I feel like this is the first semester I have all of my sh*t together and I’ll actually be able to fully engage in the material. (Yes, I do regularly use phrases like ‘fully engaged.’ My mom was neurotic and I was a two-year old teacher.)

We meal prepped yesterday night so we didn’t have anything to scramble to do this morning, it was extremely refreshing. We actually sat down and talked about our schedule so we come to and leave campus at the same time every day. I’m finally using my Bullet Journal regularly and effectively. I had time to curl my hair this morning. And did I mention I resisted Starbucks?

It’s a new year, a new semester, and I’m actually really excited!

Until next time – Xx
